It all started in 2016, when an internship opportunity was taken in the Sandhills.

Falling in Love with the Land

With Rex and Ellen Trahan

The Intern.

It all began in 2016, when Ellen took an internship that brought her to the Sandhills of Nebraska cutting and sorting grass for a Professor at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. It may not seem appealing for some but it left an impact on Ellen’s heart. When returning to Kansas to finish her college career, she often dreamed of those wide open plains. When applying for jobs, she found an agriculture education teaching position at Keya Paha County Schools and decided to apply.

The Husband.

Rex, grew up learning range management from his dad which fed his passion for the land. He learned from his dad about the importance of rotational grazing and diverse livestock grazing. In 2017, Rex and Ellen were married and with a little hesitation Rex agreed to check out north central Nebraska. Little did he know that this is where he would call home.

The Family.

In 2018, Rex and Ellen welcomed a baby boy. With a child they had a deeper calling to be involved with the land and leave a legacy. We turned our focus to regenerative agriculture and never looked back. From our gardening to our goat herd, the principals of regenerative agriculture is our focus

The Love for the Land.

Keya Paha County, Nebraska has become our home. Every time we step out the door, we are reminded of the beautiful place that we are blessed to call home. Coming from Kansas gives us a different perspective on the land. We see it from a different lens than most and truly enjoy the beauty that lies amongst the hills.

The Calling Passion.

Coming from Kansas gives us a greater appreciation for the grasslands in northern Nebraska. When we go to visit family and we take a look around and really evaluate the grasslands, we see the future. When we come back home to Northern Nebraska we see the past of what Kansas once was. We are noticing more and more how brush and cedar trees are covering the beautiful grasslands. This perspective and traveling feeds our passion and drives us to help find a solution.

The Dream.

The problem that we want to help solve in the world and our passion is reintroducing small ruminate herds back to our beautiful grasslands. Helping mother nature to regenerate the land by adding more diversity and keeping the beauty of the range. We hope to leave behind our legacy to the next generation in order to keep our rangeland diverse, profitable and beautiful.
